Grade 5/6M

In 5/6M, we have 15 bright and bubbly personalities who work as a team to create an exciting classroom. Mrs Brown teaches this class on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Potter teaches on Wednesdays.

Our Literacy program involves daily reading and writing sessions. We expand our vocabulary through our WAVE word program and we are excited to be starting the SMART Spelling approach this year. We follow the CAFÉ reading strategies to enhance our reading skills and follow the DAILY 5 approach to practise reading skills. Writer’s Notebook and the explicit teaching of writing text types and skills involved in becoming a great writer is the focus of daily writing sessions.

Our Numeracy program allows for students to explore a wide range of topics that is individualised and allows for student’s choice in their learning. Lots of hands on games and activities are provided, along with the use of digital technologies.

We participate weekly in specialist classes and these are often a highlight of the week. This year we are also participating in Electives. Students have the choice of what they would like to learn and participate in. Term one elective choices are Coding, Cooking, Gardening and school community art project.

We LOVE school wide sport days such as Cross Country, Interschool Sports, Swimming and Athletics days. We have so many opportunities to participate in House events and to also be leaders within the school and our wider community.

We are looking forward to an amazing year ahead in 2020!
