Foundation
This year in Foundation we have 18 wonderful students. Our students are building upon their resilience and learning the routines of school life. We engage in a range of life skills including; The Resilience Project, Respectful Relationships and classroom discussions, as they arise. The students are developing meaningful relationships in this year level of school and are also forming connections with their Year 6 buddies. It is important to make sure the transition into Foundation is a positive one and this is something we pride ourselves on at Bayles Regional Primary School.
We have a strong focus on Literacy in Foundation. We use the Jolly Phonics program, which provides a high quality education, enabling all children to read and write with confidence. The program delivers effective learning of English through proven, fun and multi-sensory synthetic phonics (a method of teaching where words are broken up into the smaller units of sound). Children learn to make connections between the letters of written texts to accelerate learning.
We also have a strong focus on Numeracy. Students are taught at least 1 hour of Maths per day, which we endeavour to make engaging through games, board games, iPads and teacher focus groups. We also have a Ninjas program, which has had amazing results for our students. This program allows students to receive certificates and coloured wrist bands for passing particular skills. In addition to an enriching and engaging curriculum of core and specialist areas of learning, we also have access to a broad range of co-curricular programs. These include, Buddies, MARC van Library, Physical Education, Performing Arts, School Library and AUSLAN.
